RSS: Real Simple Stuff
My name's Jeff Townsend and over the next couple of months I'll take a look at the way businesses are using technology to move foward in their respective industries. I'm a senior Finance and Marketing major so I'll probably end up in Corporate America like a lot of you - at least for the first few years. Basically, this blog will give us an idea of what the companies we might someday work for are doing and what I think about it. I'm looking foward to see what you guys think too - critics welcomed.

CNN - Companies Tap Into RSS
The first article I read was "Companies Tap Into RSS." The article basically tells us that a lot of companies are adopting RSS as way to keep their employees and customers informed and up-to-date. Right now, a lot of communication in big companies is done through email. Working for a large corporation this summer I was always slammed with emails about things that had nothing to do with my job. RSS takes care of this problem. By having a homepage that is constantly updating you cut out the pointless, mass emails. RSS is being used already by a number of companies such as FindSavings.com. The ease of use of RSS is so great that other companies wont be able to turn it down. The service just makes everything run smooth and efficient. Employees need up-to-date information to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Even more benefits of RSS can be seen from the standpoint of the average consumer. Personally, if I log onto the website of a company and they have a RSS feed giving me the newest information possible I'm going to be pretty impressed. Obviously, all companies can do it so I'm not gonna give them too much praise but a company that uses the latest technology just comes off as a better company. Tell me I'm not alone on this - it just seems obvious. The best use of RSS feeds I think are on news websites such as CNN.com. When you're on their website you can read about breaking news as soon as it happens. RSS seems like the only way to go when making a website now and I think that all websites will probably use it in the very near future.

Jeff,
I thought your post this week was really interesting. I never knew what RSS even meant until this class! I think that RSS feeds definitely make life easier, because like you said, it gives you relevant information, especially in the workplace. I agree with you that this is a really useful tool for corporate America because as you also said, employees can stay up to date on company information. I always check cnn.com and love how their news is so up to date. It is neat how for this class we have to use RSS feeds to subscribe to other peoples blogs. I hope that my job starts to use RSS because I think it would be very useful and would help cut down on time that employees spend sorting through emails!

Mr. Townsend,
This is your friend Kyle Damalouji, and I have to say that I loved your blog entry this week. It’s always good to write about something that is so relevant to the class topics that we are working with. I agree with you, and the article, about how convenient and informational these RSS feeds can be. It makes the process of reading up on the news and finding worth while information much easier than e-mail and looking through web pages. I think that these RSS feeds will soon become commonplace in many businesses as well as for personal use. I just hope that people will start to realize what RSS is and how to use it. Anyway, keep up the outstanding work. -Kyle

RSS sounds like a great idea. I would also be impressed with companies that use this. It’s so aggravating when you open your mailbox and have so much junk mail. Being able to access up-to-date information at your convenience is a great idea and it won‘t take too long for other companies to become involved with this new technology. I agree with you when you say that the best news feed is CNN.com. I love how it gives you the most recent news as soon as it happens. Instead of having to wait for the newspaper the next morning, CNN.com has all of the information as soon as it’s available.
